Van Nistelrooy put his managerial career on hold in the summer to return to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s assistant but has now been let go following the appointment of Ruben Amorim. The legendary Dutch centre-forward has no desire to play second fiddle elsewhere and is expected to branch out on his own again.

Ruud van Nistelrooy wanted to stay at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim and rejected offers from other clubs in order to return this summer. The former United striker was initially brought in as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching team in the summer but following the Dutchman’s sacking he was asked to step in as interim manager.
